WEEKLY FISCAL AND POLITICAL REPORT December 13th – 20th, 2019
As with most allies of necessity, PNL and USR are currently at odds over local elections. USR has begun requesting that the Government must either assume responsibility or pass an emergency government ordinance on the subject of two-turn local elections. This is a strong contention point for PSD as well, who advised that if the Government intercedes with election law, they will have to call for a no-confidence vote.

While the Senate motion against the Minister for Public Finance, Florin Cîțu, passed without a hitch on Monday, PSD is currently experiencing a leadership crisis. Marcel Ciolacu, the interim president of the party has now publicly admitted that allowing Viorica Dăncilă to run for President was a mistake. With the former standing bureau now dissolute, PSD is struggling, as Ciolacu puts it, with a task ahead to ” rebuild the social democratic party”.

A simple motion was registered on Monday at the Senate, under the title “ PNL Government – Your Name is Austerity “.In accordance with Senate procedure, the motion will be debated Monday. The motion may yet pass, since PSD still has a majority in the Senate. The majority is thin, though, and there is a chance the motion fails. WEEKLY FISCAL AND POLITICAL REPORT November 8th - November 15th, 2019
The first round of presidential elections was held on November 10th, 2019. Two candidates will be moving in the second round, Klaus Iohannis and Viorica Dăncilă.   While Viorica Dăncilă insists on a debate before the second round on November 24th, 2019, the campaign staff of president Iohannis stated that there is no debate to be had, as a debate between two very high profile politicians cannot possibly add value to the race. It is possible that, as public pressure mounts, a debate will be held a few days before the second round, however, it is currently just as likely that it may not be held at all, given president Iohannis' advantage.
