Weekly Fiscal and Political Report February 12th - 19th, 2021
Internal Affairs Ludovic Orban, head of the Chamber of Deputies, announced that the Parliament started the procedure for the removal of the Ombudsman. He stressed that this procedure was started by PNL in the former legislature, without it being sent to the Committees for Legal Matters in the two Chambers of the Parliament. This time, the request was sent to the two Committees and a report should be issued in two weeks. On the other hand, PSD will most likely challenge the resolution at the Romanian Constitutional Court, as this is, in their opinion, an attack towards the rule of law.

Weekly Fiscal and Political Report February 5th - 12th, 2021
Internal Affairs Vice-PM Dan Barna (USR) characterised the 2021 budget as a budget of “responsibility”, claiming that no-one is very pleased with it, but it is the budget Romania needs to come back from the crisis and restart its economy. At the same time, Vice-PM Kelemen Hunor (UDMR) claims that the budgetary target of 7,1% is courageous as pensions, salaries and investments should not be affected by this target.  The draft budget for 2021 is not yet finalised, but, according to PM Florin Cîțu, the draft will be published for debate this week. On February 10th, PSD filed a simple motion against the Minister of Health, Vlad Voiculescu. The motion is signed by 109 deputies from PSD and will be debated in the Parliament in the following weeks. Moreover, PSD will file a censor motion against the Cîțu cabinet during this parliamentary session. Marcel Ciolacu tries to form a parliamentarian majority to remove this Government and name new members for the executive. AUR Co-President Claudiu Târziu announced that senator Diana Șoșoacă and deputy Mihai Lasca were excluded from AUR and will continue their mandates as independent parliamentarians. The reasons for this exclusion include lack of party discipline and inadequacy to the parliamentary code of conduct.
