Weekly Policy and Political Report, May 30 - June 3, 2016
The upcoming week is expected to be quite eventful, given the local elections this weekend and the Government’s decision to pass the Ordinance on public employees’ wages during next Tuesday’s sitting. After this week’s Government meeting, everyone is expecting the new enforcement guidelines for public procurement to be published in the Official Gazette, which would finally allow the Law on Public Procurement and the Law on Sectoral Procurement to be implemented. Following the publication of the enforcement guidelines in the Official Gazette, the currently locked-down SEAP public procurement platform will be reopened and function within the parameters imposed by the new legislation.

Weekly Policy and Political Report May 23 – 27, 2016
Senate Speaker Călin Popescu Tăriceanu has been put under investigation by the National Anticorruption Directorate for perjury in a file concerning illegal land retrocessions. Although political sources demanded his resignation, Tăriceanu refused to comply, accusing that Romania has become a 'prosecutors’ republic', and that the justice system has been interfering with politics.

Weekly Policy and Political Report, May 16-20
Over the past week, the local political stage focused on the ongoing electoral campaign. The campaign for the June 5th local elections has blocked the activity in Parliament, with both chambers deciding to suspend their parliamentary activity until the election day, due to electoral activities in the territory. Before the unofficial parliamentary recess, Deputies managed to adopt the public procurement bills, which were recently signed into law by President Klaus Iohannis. The weekend before the beginning of the campaign for the local elections, a series of resignations and appointments took place on the political arena. The Constitutional Court has decided that the June 5 local elections will be held in a single voting round.

Weekly Policy and Political Report April 25 – 28, 2016
The third minister in Dacian Cioloș’ Cabinet to resign over the course of the past week is Minister of Culture Vlad Alexandrescu. After Minister of Labor Ana Costea was replaced with Dragoș Pîslaru, and Cristian Ghinea took over the Ministry of European Funds from Aura Răducu, Minister of Culture Vlad Alexandrescu resigned on Wednesday. While Ana Costea invoked the deadlock affecting the unitary wage law, the other two former ministers submitted their resignation “at the demand of PM Dacian Cioloș.”
